U2U's to XMBG Staff

Please do not instant message XMBG Staff asking for hacks to be given to you. Hacks WILL NOT be distributed from this site. Period! Please read and understand the rules of this site.

Also, start the support questions in the forums. Do not u2u staff members with support questions. If support is started in the forums then more people can benefit from the results. The only exceptions to this will be if it is directly connected to an installation performed by XMBG. Then you may contact your selected installer. You are not allowed to contact other staff members unless an installer other than your selected installer does the request for you. This will happen from time to time where a selected installer cannot do the request and it will be reassigned to another installer for that request only. So if on that request there is a problem then you can contact the installer who performed the work. If this cannot get under control then it will force me to turn off the u2u system altogether.

Your cooperation is very important and greatly appreciated.

This will not be tolerated any longer as it has just gotten way too out of hand. I spend what seems like an obscene amount of my time answering u2u messages that mostly pertain to questions that should be posted in the forums or messages asking me to give out hacks.

It is mentioned in the rules upon registering (but who reads rules, right?) and it's pointed out in the Welcome message in the very first forum (but who reads welcome messages, right?) and then there is the rules link in the header menu (again, who reads rules?) that we do not give out, distribute or make available any hacks whatsoever, period, end of discussion. But yet it continues to happen on an almost daily basis. If you can hack your board yourself then you can get these hacks at the many xmb support related sites that are out there. XMBG is primarily in existence to help people that don't know how to hack a board, don't want to take the time to hack a board, or are afraid they'll trash their board.

Also, the u2u's to staff for your board problems need to stop and be posted in the forums where you will get help and the information is there for those who may need it afterwards. Personally for me I am only going to respond to support type questions only from the people to whom I have personally installed for.

Another problem that is happening all too frequent is members going from staff member to staff member asking the same questions after being given the answer. From this point forward any member that does this will get a warning and after 3 warnings you will be banned from this site.

Very soon there will be a new system implemented where the members will have to select an installer (this is already in place). Then that installer will be your personal account representative and you will deal exclusively with that installer unless deemed otherwise by me. So if you have a question/problem/concern with an install then you will take it to your representative, or to the installer that did the request for you. But, again, general support questions will not be accepted via u2u. So, in short, you may only contact your selected installer, or the installer that does a request for you. From time to time an installer may not be able to do a request and it will be reassigned to another installer. And if there's a problem with that request you may contact that installer only if it relates to that specific request.

If things continue with the u2u's as they have for the past 3 months or so I am prepared to throw a switch that will block regular members from sending u2u messages to the staff at all. So please, your cooperation is of the utmost importance and greatly appreciated.

So basically what it boils down to is this: If you have a question that is not related to any installation performed by your installer then you must post it in the forums. There will be no exceptions. Any questions of this type sent to staff will be ignored and a warning issued.

Well once again this is just happening way too much. If this doesn't stop immediately I will shut off the u2u system altogether. A global message was sent out about this a few days ago yet some people persist on doing it. Please do not send staff unsolicited u2u messages. Especially do not u2u me asking me to install hacks for your or other ridiculous things that should either be asked of your installer if it's related to a hack installation they did, or it should be posted in the forums. If I am not your selected installer I will not install hacks for you unless, for some reason, your installer is not available. I will not install for you just because I am online at the time. I can't be everybody's personal slave. We will be working on an enhancement to the u2u system where members will not be able to send staff members u2u's. They will only be able to respond to u2u's sent to them by staff members. I'm sorry that we are constantly having to come up with stops and checks like this because so many people just blatantly disregard the rules or don't even bother to read them.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will make for a more happier site owner.

It just doesn't stop. And I love it when people start out the message with, "I know I should probably post this in the forums" or "I know I shouldn't be sending this to you, but here's my problem and I want you to drop whatever you're doing to fix this for me. To hell with everyone else that you're helping because my problem is more important than theirs and more important than anything else that you are doing". Well, it's going to end now. As soon as I can get with GuldantheWarlock we are implementing a block in the u2u system so you will not be able to send me u2u's UNLESS I send one to you first. I'm sorry it has to come to implementing this block. But it's this or I disable the u2u system altogether. It is sad that everyone doesn't read the rules, or if they do they go ahead and do what they want to do anyways. I'll say this for the the last time:

Well this problem is on the rise again and has bothered me for over 2 years now. So I want to ask the following questions of the members.

1. When you go to the main XMB site, do you send u2u's to Tularis?

2. When you go to XMB Mods, do you send u2u's to John Briggs?

3. When you go to XMB Services, do you send u2u's to Adam?

If the answers are no, then why me? If the answer is yes, then what is the response you get from that particular site owner.

I don't mind the occasional u2u if it's something of importance or perhaps private in nature. But it's ridiculous to u2u me with stuff that should be posted in the forums to begin with. I have my u2u system set up so that I can make myself unavailable to all except for who I put into an 'allow' list or if I initiate contact and after that if I don't respond then you are blocked again. I don't want to throw the switch for this so please think before you send u2u's to me.

I get next to no u2us because I stick to my guns and quote the rules to people on the matter. Better to be blunt up front versus being mr. nice guy and re-explaining myself. Give an inch and a mile will be taken. In the long run all gain from on site support.

If people would only read.............

Yesterday tho was the first time in probably a year where as soon as the member registered u2u'ing me is the first thing they do. But I also get a lot of u2u's for things that should be in the forums to begin with. But, as I said, if it's of a personal or sensitive nature then it's okay. But if the forum-type messages don't stop I'll throw the block switch. I know who I can put in the allow list and everyone else will just have to post and they can ask there to open a u2u dialogue. And the beauty of this part of my system is when I stop replying then the user is blocked again unless I should initiate another dialogue.

Also, u2u'ing me about the shop hack is forbidden. This is not a private or sensitive matter. As stated in a few places around here I will not provide support for DIY installations of the shop and its addons. The original download that's floating around out there is a mess along with some of the addons. Therefore I will only provide support for the shop if I install it as my copy is a little different and I have reworked some of the problematic addons to work with my copy as well as working with the Forum Based Post Count Controls. And also bear in mind that any version of the Shop is unsecure and you use at your own risk.

And after I made the last post, what happens? I get 2 u2u's about the shop. And the sad thing is since posting around the xmb community has been extremely low the past several months I get more u2u's than posts.

John, I think I have found all the parts for the u2u block. I'm going to go fix and eat some dinner. Aftwards I'll throw it on my test board and see if I have it all and make sure that it is working.

Once again I've had to throw the switch to block unwanted u2u's. It is essential that all support type questions be posted in the forums. This way others with similar problems can benefit from it as well. Plus with activity around here at an all time low it's sad when my u2u inbox is more active than the forums. So for now u2u's sent to me initiated by the members will not be allowed. So the only way members now can send u2u's to me is if I initiate a u2u to the member. They will then be allowed to respond to it and if I don't reply back then the block is automatically put back on. I'm sorry it has to be this way but I have asked now for over 2 1/2 years to not send support issues via u2u unless I personally tell you to u2u me some information.

If you are a hosting customer of mine and you need support for your hosting account you can send me an email via this site and I will add your name to a bypass list that will allow you to communicate with me via u2u.

Once again I've had to throw the switch to block unwanted u2u's. It is essential that all support type questions be posted in the forums. This way others with similar problems can benefit from it as well. Plus with activity around here at an all time low it's sad when my u2u inbox is more active than the forums. So for now u2u's sent to me initiated by the members will not be allowed. So the only way members now can send u2u's to me is if I initiate a u2u to the member. They will then be allowed to respond to it and if I don't reply back then the block is automatically put back on. I'm sorry it has to be this way but I have asked now for over 2 1/2 years to not send support issues via u2u unless I personally tell you to u2u me some information.

If you are a hosting customer of mine and you need support for your hosting account you can send me an email via this site and I will add your name to a bypass list that will allow you to communicate with me via u2u.

I went to enable this and there's a problem with this feature which I'll be working on tonight. When it is fixed I will be turning it on again. Support issues via u2u are way out of control again. My u2u's on a daily basis just about double the posts in the forums. I have several reasons for doing this that I am listing below.

1. All support issues need to be posted in the appropriate forum unless otherwise specified by me.

2. It is considered rude behavior to u2u a site admin for support help. This is basically saying, "Hey! I need help and no one else's problems are more important than mine".

3. If support issues are posted in the forums then it gives me a chance to breathe and allow someone else to offer their help instead of putting everything in my lap. And this way, too, other people who have similar issues can benefit from the public posting of support.

Some people take long periods of time to respond. And when my inbox gets full I empty it every couple of days. Then when the user finally gets back to me I've forgotten what the problem(s) is/are and have no point of reference. So this is why it is necessary to post support issues in the forums.

So when I get the u2u block fixed I'll be activating it. No one but staff will be able to u2u me unless I u2u you first. And then you will only be able to respond. You will not be able to continue to u2u me unless I respond to your response.

If you are a hosting customer of mine I will be setting up a private forum where you can contact me to let me know you need help with your hosting account. I will then u2u you to start the dialogue.

Also, sometime in the next couple of days I will be clearing out the u2u table. So if you have any u2u's you'd like to keep I suggest that you copy them to a text file.

PLEASE DO NOT U2U ME FOR GENERAL SUPPORT ISSUES!!!
